Other Transcript Information

Express mail

The charge for using express has a set fee, please see above for the actual cost. P.O. Box addresses will NOT be accepted by express mail companies.

Mail your transcript

Transcripts are normally mailed directly to the person, school, or company you indicated. Please fill in the appropriate mailing address.

The content of the official transcript is converted into a PDF document and delivered to the recipient by eScrip-Safe. Visit the e-transcript site for further information.

Pick up your transcript

Transcripts may be picked up by the student/former student in the Office of the Registrar one to two working days after receipt of the request. A photo I.D. is required. If you wish to have your transcripts picked up by another individual, please submit a signed authorization to the Office of the Registrar.

Faxing your transcript

If you are requesting your Transcript to be faxed, fill in the "Fax #" and the "ATTN" line .

All transcripts that are faxed (unofficial) must be followed up with an official mailed copy. Hence, the mailing address must also be completed. If a mailing address for the official transcript is not provided, the transcript will be held for pick-up at the Office of the Registrar.

Please note that transcripts are printed on security paper and faxing the copy will cause the words "ILLEGAL COPY" to appear over the face of the entire document. We will attempt to fax your request twice. If these attempts fail because of the receiving equipment or fax number, the transcript will only be mailed.

Social Security Number/Date of Birth

Your Social Security Number and Date of Birth are considered private. The Office of the Registrar no longer lists the completed Social Security number or year of birth on a transcript. If available, the Social Security Number and Date of Birth are listed on your transcript as follows:

Student Number: XXX-XX-0123
Date of Birth: 01-01-XXXX

Processing Time

Transcript orders are processed as quickly as possible and normally leave the Office of the Registrar within two business days of receiving the order. At the end of the semester, orders may require more time due to the volume of requests normally received.

Miscellaneous Information

The University issues academic transcripts only for academic work completed at Notre Dame. Requests for transcripts of courses taken at other institutions must be directed to those institutions.

Evaluative information such as courses completed, grades earned, etc. cannot be issued to an outside party unless the student/former student has given the Registrar written permission to release this information to that party. The Registrar may, however, disclose "directory information" as allowed under The Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) without special permission. A list of the directory information can be reviewed at The Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act web page.

Requests for transcripts will not be honored if you are financially indebted to the University and the Office of Students Accounts has placed a transcript hold on your record.

Effective March 1, 2000 the University of Notre Dame discontinued embossing the University seal on its transcripts. This procedure has been replaced by using secure transcript paper with the preprinted light blue University seal overlaid by the University Registrar's signature in white.

Grading scale and calculation information

Grading scale and calculation information can be reviewed on the Office of the Registrar website. Grading scale information prior to 1988 is also available.
